✂️ Cut it out! ✂️ (Who needs AI?)
Your ultimate collage resource guide featuring a ton of free, open-source, public domain material AND a video replay to learn digital collage with me! Woohoo!
We are collaging this month in Ritual Lab!
FOUND MAGIC: Storytelling with Collage & Found Poetry kicks off this Sunday, April 13th 12-2:30pm central & runs for the next 3 weeks.
🔮 Discover a unique message from the universe that only you can reveal! Registration ends Saturday.
What’s your SOURCE?
Okay, today I have a video tutorial for you and a BUNCH of cool resources (with a special download & supplies list for members below the pink tape), but let’s chat a bit first:
It can be titillating to plug some words into an image generator to see what it spits back at you. BUT HAVE YOU EVEN SPENT HOURS CRUISING THE PUBLIC DOMAIN, THO??? This shit will knock you sideways with curiosity and delight.
Like, yes, show me 50,000 cigarette cards. I’ll be here all night.
We humans come from an astonishingly rich history of image creation. And, thanks to the (increasingly-rare) free corners of the internet dedicated to the preservation of this history, we can dip into this richness at will. And by “dip in” I mean: Cut, paste, chop, screw, re-mix, re-imagine, re-contextualize and revitalize works in the public domain!
This is truly an embarrassment of riches no one person could ever possibly mine to exhaustion, so give it your best shot, friends.
For the next 3 week in the FOUND MAGIC Ritual Lab we will play with the wonder of found images and poetry. But even if you’re not joining us in RitLab, I know all of us with web presence in These Strange Times™️ have need for quick “content”, and that drives a lot of folks to AI imagery…sigh… So why not make yer content rad and interesting and GO TO THE SOURCE?? (hint: we are the source)
If AI can scrape the web for the sum total of human creation, we can too.
BUT! Unlike AI companies, we can do it ethically. And this isn’t complicated. What’s okay to borrow, chop and reuse? Either your own work, OR:
BEFRIEND THE PUBLIC DOMAIN!
A wealth of material we can legally use without permission. 🌈
Without further ado, here are a zillion links I have saved for harvesting pure magic from the entire history of human creation.
