Krisztina and I have never met in person, never hugged, never clinked our glasses or met up for a hike. I’ve never smooched her adorable baby or helped her pull weeds. But I have spent more time with Krisztina in the last 4 years than I have with many of my other beloveds— because we met online at the height of 2020 lockdown on the Vision Train.
“On March 24th, 2020 the Non-Stop Vision Train Global Art Jam left the virtual station to run an indefinitely open 24/7 art studio on Zoom. Generated by a rotating crew of volunteer artists from around the world, value and community are explored in a collective experimental virtual studio. All who find their way to this space are welcomed by a global tribe of established and emerging visionaries exploring their creativity and exchanging ideas.”
Krisztina and I were both part of that regular Train crew hosting weekly gatherings of visionaries from around the globe. Neon & I spent every single Saturday morning in Krisztina’s Mythology Cafe - aka CHURCH to all of us who bonded there- making art together, talking about myth and magic, drinkin’ tea…
Well, actually we “met” like 6 years ago on Reddit when I started r/WomenAndEntheogens (because I was sick to death of what a sausage fest all psychonaut forums are)— but we didn’t realize this until 2020… How cool is that?
I mention all this because: all of this is magic. How the world actually works and how we think it works is always an astonishing reveal. And friendships are magic, too. Bonding over weird shit with people you enjoy thinking out loud with is so special.
Now, Krisztina and I both teach with Vision Train’s sister ViTra Academy (now enrolling for fall!). Image Word Mystery the ten-week course had its first home there and it’s in that class that all these neat oracle cards I’ve been working with originated:
Can you spot the unicorn skull?
Though she had just had her baby, she managed to join my class for long enough to leave an indelible mark on this whole project of oracular meaning-making: in the form of a unicorn skull.
If you’ve been following along here, you know I’m working with each of these cards now to make an animated oracle deck— the process of which has me asking a ton of questions about symbol, personal mythologies, the difference between “story” and “oracle”…
Many of these cards’ origin point is fuzzy for me— these were each symbols or ideas that arose organically amongst class participants— but the unicorn skull just had to be from Krisztina. So it was a perfect excuse to book a call with a friend. This video is that call. Enjoy—
You can connect with Krisztina in a few ways if you wanna spend more time with her brilliance: Visit her on Instagram, go to her website, watch her YouTube channel full of amazing videos, if you’re in the San Fransisco area check out The Alembic, and she is teaching this awesome class online with ViTra Academy this month. LOVE YOU KRISZTINA!
I'm looking forward to listening to your unicorn skull chat today! My mom has long been a unicorn fan, so when I was growing up they were all over the house. Also, didn't know you started a sub — also had a chuckle about your meme/post and the cadence of #psychedelicsausagefest. Here's to heart-centered virtual communities and bonding about weird shit!
