Inspiring the know your cycles and ability to push through to creativity. I’m trying to remove expectations for what I “should” be doing to settle in and allowing the spaces to come together harmoniously and intentionally. I know this will ok set the tone for my art space too. ❤️🔥
The Shoulds! They're endless, aren't they? I'm glad my wrestling with them can serve some inspo to your own process, Nina. I think those of us who work hard and get results need extra reminders sometimes that "trusting the process" is safe and yields results in its own time. I find myself saying things to myself like, "I do not have to be fully-formed" or "I do not need to know how to write this story" when I feel the creeping controlling managing director inside feel like she needs results yesterday and twice as much.
Productivity isn’t the real goal, is it? The culture we were raised in tells us it is, but it’s not! Being in full expression of our own unique being to feel that space we hold, to honor the space others hold, and to celebrate it all. I am enough. ❤️🔥
“Being in full expression of our own unique being to feel that space we hold, to honor the space others hold”=== YES!! Antidotes for productivity culture!!
By the by, speaking of bucking 'garbage in, garbage out'—I used to attend this event at an arthouse cinema-type spot. They'd seek out reels of the worst movies ever made, and we'd watch and heckle 'em a la MST3K. A comedic, creative act in itself.
Whoa, didn't even know there was an ABAB (accountbil-a-buddies) thread goin' on. Quite a showing for how you were feeling! And kudos for showing up despite all that. I love this new neon (hey, Neon!) backlit series, especially the violet(?) at the end. Hm, not sure I know my flowers.
I sure do have those days, in my own way. Workin' on bein' less precious with each piece, even if it feels more 'serious'—which in my mind is about how attached I am to what will result.
I think you're onto something re: robot art. Maybe we need to add another law to Asimov's three—that any AI/ML process must involve the algorithm (or whatever calculating mechanism is driving the imagery) suffering over each mark they make, questioning every stage of the piece, and sometimes feeling meh about the whole endeavor. Sometimes, after writing a prompt, maybe the Gen-AI app returns with, "Sorry, Dave, I'm just not feeling it today. Try again later."
You’re doing awesome with that preciousness releasing, miles 🙌🏼 kudos. I know the struggle! Which, as you know, is why I toss these crazy prompts and restrictions on myself to get around that…
Aw, shucks—thanks. Love your prompts. Thank you for sharing these prompt workarounds. They've been super helpful. I also like Eno's Oblique Strategies for unsticking.
Always lovely to connect with you here Miles 🫶🏼 HAHAHAHA: “suffering over each mark they make, questioning every stage of the piece, and sometimes feeling meh about the whole endeavor” HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Same here! Gets me thinkin'...what would artificial emotional intelligence look like? Or that maybe there should be a Turing test for art robots — "Have you ever considered removing a body part and mailing it to a friend or family member?" "Does your drinking problem result in deep depression or abstract expressionism? Both?"

Yes! Yes! Yes! Love this - quality heckling involves a sharp wit and nimble mind!
That they allowed us to bring in our own intoxicants certainly helped oil that mindwit.
Lounging around and smarty-pants goofing off with byo intoxicants sounds like a great friday night in our living room! Wish we lived closer!
Yes, me too! There would surely (Thanks, 'Airplane' for ruining that word forever) be some amazing conversations and good times. Virtual watch party?
Airplane: the reason I also say, “cigarette? Yes, I know”
Virtual watch party!!
