I'm not an artist, but I do enjoy your lovely sketches.

Aw thank you Anne. You have me thinking about analogous experiences in other mediums… For years when I was learning to play the guitar, for example, it was the B chord that always made me a little reluctant… (ok ok still does- and it’s reinforced by never writing it into my music!)…As a writer, it’s always been the “elevator pitch” that freezes me up— and god do I practice this one. Do you have an analog in your practice? The thing that just gives you a bit of hesitation, or needed more practice than other things to feel comfortable with it?

Writing. I've always wanted to write for fun (instead of for work). I sit staring at the computer screen every week trying to think of what I could possibly have to say that would interest others. Frustrating.

I know that odd frustration! I love that you show up every week anyway. And write about what you've lived. And notice how- somehow??- sharing it speaks to other people! This is a fact that always amazes me, too. Isn't it weird how invisible our own "interesting" stuff can be to our own critical eye?

I think that deep inside, we're all looking for a connection with other people. And there are a lot of experiences that others have felt as well. That's why I love the internet! I can connect with people I have never met, yet we have so much in common.

100%💐 Thanks for connecting with me here in the internet wilderness, Anne.

I totally agree on cats. I can NEVER get a drawing of one to look right. Horses (unicorns, unsurprisingly) for me were a constant childhood drawing theme and it’s weird how when i go to draw one, the shapes are like embedded in my hands. I don’t even need my eyes to draw them. Ears used to be that for me and I’ve spent the last year and a half sketching ears so it’s gotten to be something i actually love drawing. But this is going to sound weird. The area of skin around the eyes and especially from the inner corner of the eye to the nose is like some kind of medieval torture device every time i draw it. It is my ultimate nemesis despite that i sketch faces literally daily. One day I will gain the upper hand on that….one day…..

Ohhh of course unicorn form is embedded deep in there, Krisztina! I love that. And EARS! I forgot about the dizzying confusion of ear anatomy! That’s one of those things I fudge 100% of the time unless I am VERY FOCUSED on observing them. 😅 And the inner eye torture 😂😂😂 it’s so funny what parts of our regular practice occupy this personal challenge space. Would I ever know that area vexes you by looking at your beautiful work? Nope! ✨ thanks for sharing Krisztina, I love this little look at your world.

I LOVE your sketchbook and your lines. I'm adding "drawing inside the outside" to my list of to-dos - thank you Lisette! because I love to draw and i need to draw myself out in the world again?

thank you!

Oh!! Yes, Laura! Drawing yourself out into the world again with the *pleasure* of drawing is so lovely. This makes me happy. It really does feel so good to draw, doesn’t it? And it feels so good to draw things without pressure for outcomes. I think that’s part of what really liberates about timed drawing, for example— no pressure to finesse it into oblivion! Same with the sketchbook— we can share if we want, but it can also just be for fun. 💖🙏🏼 Do you have a favorite thing to draw or something drawing you to it? (Thinking about drawing out in the world: I’m excited for the warm season so I can go outside and draw flowers and clouds! So relaxing!)

I like to draw: people at the food venue at Costco while getting tires changed, tractors with flat tires and weeds all around, cats cleaning themselves, older furniture, sewing machine, mopeds, dogs, (moose are tough!), tiny baby landscapes,....etc.

There may be a lotta sketches of tiny house on wheels layouts, and dreamy treehouse villages as well.

I want to crank it up tho.. for reals. I'm so thankful that I am able to sketch, that I have the ability to doodle whatever I want. This is my gift, I am really feeling the need to "Punch it Margaret!" <--do you remember this? thanks for you Lisette!

Hahaha! “Punch it Margaret”!! How on earth do those things lodge in our memories???

Yes— an absolute gift.

I love drawing while I wait for stuff too— so did my dad. When he passed away and I inherited all of his art, there were a number of half-filled sketchbooks that I eventually decided to fill up the rest of the way with my sketches- a beautiful conversation across time. His small observations and mine snuggled in the same book. He made the most of every doctors appointment at the end- sketching waiting rooms and medical monitors until he couldn’t hold the pencil anymore. Creativity the gift, the companion. 💖

That last sketch and poem! 🥰

Right! Some sketchbook magic there…the drawing came first, then ran across that gorgeous quote later…I love the evolving page.
